Boeing is about to erect a massive building at Cecil Airport on Jacksonville’s Westside. A new hangar covering 365,623 square feet will be built at 5868 Approach Road.
City building inspection officials approved the permits this month for the Jacksonville Aviation Authority.
The project will cost nearly $102 million. It appears to be part of Boeing's construction of a $156 million maintenance, repair, and overhaul complex for fighter jets and support planes expected to open in 2023.
Building officials also granted a permit for a central utility plant to serve the operations at the site. That utility building will be 7,200 square feet and cost about $7.6 million to erect.

In the Pipeline: More hangar space in the works for Jacksonville's Cecil Airport Meanwhile, the JAA also received permit approval to add steel frame hangar doors at a separate MASI Fabric Hangar building at Cecil.
Those doors will cost $1.5 million to install at 13509 S. Scout Road. Foresight Construction Group Inc. will handle that work.
The Jacksonville Firefighters Museum was moved from Metropolitan Park to 620 E. Bay St. The move of the brick building from 1406 Gator Bowl Blvd. to the new Bay Street location cost $1.2 million, according to permits approved by the city. Hygema House Movers Inc. performed the relocation work.
A new grocery store is coming to the growing eTown development in the southern area of Jacksonville.
City building officials approved permits this month for the development of the store at 11025 eTown Parkway. One of those permits is for the $6 million grocery store that will be 48,848 square feet.
A permit for the facade of the building also was approved and the project will cost about $6.7 million. Another permit is for yet-to-be-named retail space that will cost about $1.3 million. Hawkins Construction Co. will handle the eTown projects. Here are additional building permits
